Intensive Therapy In-Person In Madison, Wisconsin

Find the peace you’re looking for

at a pace that fits your needs.

With the lifestyle you lead, weekly therapy might not be enough to create the change you need.

Maybe it could, if you continued at the same pace for several more months or years, but you don’t want to wait that long. You want to start feeling better now.

Perhaps you’re already familiar with EMDR, and have been doing this kind of work in therapy, but feel like one hour a week isn’t enough to dive as deeply into the issues you’re facing as you’d like to. Maybe you’re someone who works in a helping profession—such as a first responder, nurse, police officer, firefighter, or member of the military—and has had some difficult experiences that you want to work on, but you don’t want any mental health diagnoses on your record. Or, you could just be too overwhelmed with work, family responsibilities, or life in general to have time for therapy every week.

Whatever the situation, clinic owner Rebecca Mahan-Strupp, LPC offers therapy intensives, customized sessions and personalized treatment that can help you process traumatic experiences and truly focus on your own needs without interruption—all in a timeframe that works well for your schedule and life.

How it Works

Currently, we offer two types of intensives: EMDR and Crisis or Acute Incident Response.

EMDR Intensives

Best for…

Best for people who have experienced ongoing trauma, complex trauma, childhood trauma, or are struggling with symptoms of PTSD.

  • If you decide to move forward with an EMDR intensive, we’ll schedule a 60-to-90-minute intake and assessment session to begin the process. During this session, we’ll go over your background and get clear on what we’re going to work on. Based on this assessment, you’ll receive a personalized workbook, which you’ll be asked to complete at least 5 days prior to your first intensive session.

The intensive sessions themselves can be full-day (6-hour) or half-day (3-hour) sessions, over one or multiple days. There will be scheduled breaks where snacks and drinks will be provided, and you’ll have an opportunity to go get lunch if you’d like.

  • It’s encouraged to plan time the nights before and after your intensive sessions to rest and relax, as the work you’ll do will likely be tiring.

In your intensive session(s), you’ll go through the customized treatment plan laid out for you by your therapist, and they’ll be beside you every step of the way.

After completing your intensive, you’ll have an hour-long follow-up session, where you and your therapist will discuss the insights that were gained through the work you did together, and how to integrate what was learned into your life moving forward.

Crisis or Acute Incident Response Intensives

Ideal for…

Ideal for those who have recently had a specific  traumatic experience, and want to prevent symptoms from turning into PTSD.

  • If you decide to move forward with this kind of intensive after your initial consultation, we’ll schedule a single, 6-hour session to process what happened.

  • It’s encouraged to plan time the nights before and after your intensive session to rest and relax, as the work you’ll do will likely be tiring.

During the session, you and your therapist will go through treatments that will help you sleep better, feel less affected emotionally by things related to the traumatic incident, and learn to ground yourself in the present. Through this, you’ll find relief quickly and feel more confident when planning for the future.

Some methods available to use in therapy intensives include…

  • Learn tools and skills that will help you ground yourself in the present moment and feel more in control of your emotions.

  • A type of therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements) to activate the brain's natural healing mechanisms.

  • A version of EMDR therapy that uses guided rapid eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to reduce emotional distress associated with past traumatic experiences, often without the need to go over all the details of the event.

  • An approach that frames the mind as a system of various parts, each with its own unique qualities and outlook. Through this, you can learn to accept and appreciate every part of yourself, and how to live in harmony with all of them.

  • A type of counseling that focuses on the connection between the mind and body, recognizing how past experiences can be stored in the body. It helps individuals understand and regulate their nervous system responses, aiming to reduce stress and improve overall well-being by integrating physical sensations with emotional experiences.
